REFLEXOLOGY TRAINING FOR RESIDENTIAL CARE STAFF
A Practical Approach to Supporting Emotional Regulation
I provide structured, safeguarding-led training for residential care staff, equipping them with a simple and effective technique to support emotional regulation in children and young people.
This training focuses on giving staff a clear, practical tool they can use in everyday care to help young people feel calmer, more settled, and better regulated.
What This Training Provides
Staff will learn how to:
Recognise when a child is becoming dysregulated
Understand how stress affects the body and behaviour
Use simple reflexology-based techniques to support calming
Apply these techniques safely within professional boundaries
Gain and maintain clear, ongoing consent
Understanding Trauma and the Brain
Children who have experienced trauma often live in a heightened state of stress.
This means their brain and body are more likely to move quickly into a stress response, making it harder for them to feel calm, safe, or in control.
In this state, the thinking part of the brain is less accessible, and behaviour is often driven by the body’s need to feel safe.
This training helps staff understand:
How trauma impacts the developing brain
Why children may react quickly or intensely
How the body holds stress
How supporting regulation can help the child return to a calmer state
Safe, Structured, and Suitable for Residential Care
The approach taught is:
Focused on the feet and hands only
Short and manageable (5–10 minutes)
Fully consent-led
Aligned with safeguarding and appropriate touch policies
This ensures it is safe, appropriate, and practical within a residential setting.
Grounded in Understanding Regulation
The training includes a clear and simple explanation of how the body responds to stress.
Staff will understand:
Why children become overwhelmed
What happens in the body during a stress response
How calm, structured touch can support regulation
This is explained in a way that is easy to understand and apply in real situations.
