Reflexology & Regulation Training for Support Workers

Trauma informed training for care teams supporting children & young people

Children & young people living in care may carry experiences of instability, loss, neglect, trauma, disrupted attachment or prolonged stress.

That can show up in many different ways.

Restlessness.

Withdrawal.

Difficulty settling.

Emotional overwhelm.

Hypervigilance.

Shutdown.

Or behaviour that can be difficult to understand without looking at what may be happening underneath it.

My training is designed to help support workers better understand regulation, the nervous system & the importance of calm, consistent therapeutic care.

It also introduces carefully structured reflexology informed techniques that may be used as part of a wider wellbeing approach, within clear safeguarding, consent & professional boundaries.

This is not about turning support workers into reflexologists.

It is about giving them another gentle, structured way to support connection, calm & regulation within the care environment.

The training brings together nervous system education, trauma informed principles, professional boundaries & simple reflexology informed approaches.

• Consent & choice

• Recognising when a young person does not want to engage

• Safeguarding considerations

• Recording & reflecting on sessions

• Working alongside existing care plans & professional support

Why Reflexology Informed Practice?

Reflexology is traditionally delivered by trained practitioners.

My approach does not attempt to replace that.

Instead, the training draws on elements of reflexology, therapeutic presence & structured wellbeing routines to help support workers develop another way of helping a young person settle, connect & feel more regulated.

The emphasis is always on:

Choice

Consent

Predictability

Professional boundaries

Observation

Relationship

The young person remains in control throughout.

There is no pressure to participate & no expectation that one approach will suit every child.

A Trauma Informed Approach

Trauma informed practice is not about asking:

“What is wrong with this child?”

It is about becoming more curious about:

“What may have happened to this young person & what might they need in this moment?”

That shift can change the way we respond.

Behaviour may be communication.

Withdrawal may be protection.

Hypervigilance may once have been necessary.

Difficulty accepting care may make sense in the context of earlier experiences.

The aim of this training is to help support workers respond with greater awareness, confidence & compassion while remaining firmly within their professional role.

What This Training Does Not Do

This training does not qualify participants as reflexologists.

It does not teach diagnosis.

It does not replace medical, psychological, social care or therapeutic intervention.

It does not ask support workers to work outside their role.

Instead, it provides an additional framework for supporting wellbeing within an existing care structure.

Any techniques introduced are taught alongside clear guidance around safeguarding, consent, contraindications, documentation & scope of practice.

Why I Developed This Training

My background spans over 3 decades in complementary therapies, women’s health, aromatherapy, reflexology & therapeutic practice.

Alongside this, my current work within residential childcare has given me direct experience of the realities of supporting children & young people who may be living with trauma, instability, crisis & emotional dysregulation.

It has made me increasingly interested in one question:

How can we give support workers more practical tools to help children regulate without asking them to become therapists?

This training grew from that question.

I wanted to create something practical.

Something grounded.

Something support workers can understand & use within appropriate professional boundaries.

And something that recognises that regulation often begins with relationship, consistency & feeling understood.

My Professional Approach

My work brings together:

• Trauma informed principles

• Nervous system education

• Reflexology

• Therapeutic presence

• Consent

• Safeguarding

• Professional boundaries

• Reflective practice

• Evidence informed holistic care

I believe support workers need practical training that respects the complexity of the children they support.

Not another script.

Not another box to tick.

But greater understanding of what may be happening beneath the behaviour & how their own presence can influence the environment around a young person.

Training For Organisations

Training can be delivered for individual teams or organisations & adapted to the setting, age group & needs of the service.

Programmes may include:

• Introductory training sessions

• Team workshops

• Reflexology informed regulation training

• Trauma informed practice development

• Ongoing consultancy

• Reflective sessions for staff teams

• Bespoke training for residential care settings

All training is designed to sit alongside your organisation’s existing safeguarding, care planning & professional procedures.

Interested In Training For Your Team?

If you manage a children’s home, care service or organisation & would like to explore whether this training could support your team, I would be happy to discuss your setting, your staff & what you would like the training to achieve.

Every service is different.

The aim is not to impose another model.

It is to help staff feel more confident understanding regulation, responding to children with greater awareness & developing practical, appropriate ways to support wellbeing within everyday care.
